TopFour: Tribal Toes

27 May

The rather sudden weather change has pretty much meant that I have moved from boots straight into sandals – not that I’m complaining, they happen to be my two favourite types of shoe. The best thing about sandals is that they can look intricately beautiful and delicate whilst still being incredibly comfortable. I can, and do, walk around all day in them without so much as a blister; that is, compared to ballet flats which seem intent on destroying every possible spare bit of space on my feet. So here’s to the feel of fresh air between the toes – my top four tribal inspired sandals. Feathers and beads, what could go wrong?

1.Gile, Aldo.

2. Sundance Sandal, Office.

3. Fancy Black Beaded Thong Sandals, TopShop.

4. Lampe, Aldo.

TopFour: Black Asymmetric Dress

4 Jun

After finishing my final ever exam on Wednesday morning, the last few days have been rather a whirlwind. I went out to an end of term party last night and needed a dress to wear that was dressy but not too formal – something my wardrobe seems to be lacking. I went for a simple little black dress, but with an asymettric shoulder to make it more edgy and modern. The first one here from TopShop was a great choice – it was affordable but still looked great. Here it is with three other styles that I think are equally stylish.

1. One Shoulder Bandage Dress, £45. Topshop.

2. One Shoulder Ruffle Dress, £28. Warehouse.

3. Asymmetric Silk Mini Dress, Milly. £332.

4. Patrol Cotton Asymmetric Dress, French Connection. £85.

TopFour: Lovely in Lace

18 May

I rarely stray onto Net-a-porter for fear of bankrupting myself from just looking at the pictures but I happened to do so today and came across this my-life-will-not-be-complete-until-I-am-wearing-it white lace dress. However my student budget refuses to allow for it. Luckily though, Topshop has a fairly similar substitute and Warehouse offer two slightly different white lace alternatives. Now all that is needed to save it from being a bit too bridal is a black leather or stonewash denim jacket to ‘scruffy it up’ in a way that would horrify my mother yet please me greatly.

1. Rancoeur White Lace Dress, Sandro. £235.

2. Lace Tie Back Dress by Rare, Topshop. £25.

3. Scalloped Lace Skater Dress, Warehouse. £40.

4. Lace Shift Dress, Warehouse. £60.

TopFour : Denim Shirts

30 Apr

Now this is something I never thought I’d say: I want a denim shirt.

It seems strange that after overdosing on denim as a child in the mid-nineties I swore never again to wear denim above the waist but I feel oddly drawn to an oversized slouchy denim shirt, worn with black ankle leggings and white pumps with messy swept back hair looking as if I’d just arrived on a horse galloping wildly across plains and pastures instead of trudging up and down escalators on the london underground.

1. Icewash Denim Shirt, £25. New Look.

2. Longline Denim Shirt, £20. New Look

3. Bleach Denim Oversize Shirt, £30. TopShop.

4. Western Shirt, £38. Oasis.

With all the walking I do around London, comfortable shoes are an absolute necessity. Recently I have been looking for some beautiful ballet pumps that actually look like the ballerina shoes I used to wear to lessons when I was little.

2. Topshop, £16 here

3. Oasis, £35 here

4. Schuh, £19.99 here
